Pinterest’s AI-Driven Shopping Relevance Outperforms Generic Models by 30 Points
Pinterest's AI tools are delivering tangible results, with product recommendations surpassing generic models by 30 percentage points in shopping relevance. Gen Z users are responding positively, with 39% now starting their product searches on the platform, according to Adobe data.
The platform has achieved eight consecutive quarters of user growth, with Q2 revenue hitting $998 million—a 17% year-over-year increase. Monthly active users ROSE to 578 million, up 11% from the previous year. Shareholders have also benefited, with Pinterest's stock outperforming the S&P 500, gaining 20% this year.
However, challenges remain. User growth in the US and Canada stagnated, while Europe saw a slight decline. Investors expressed concern over Pinterest's forecast of lower margins in Q3, attributed to heavy spending on AI talent and sales team expansion. The platform's reliance on Gen Z engagement underscores its narrow focus, with executives acknowledging they are still in the "early innings" of AI development.
